VIEJAS GLORIAS PROJECT
GIRONA / SPAIN
Marina has created two large-scale murals covering two of the facades of the Puig d'en Roca nursing home in the capital of Girona. A giant cuddle has transformed not only the building, but also the spirit and the mood of its residents. From the very beginning, they got involved, participating and cheering the whole process.
The mural, or rather everything that has happened around it, has shown the transformative power of art as a social tool and its positive impact on the health of its participants.
The idea of this project started because of Marina’s sick mother. She was interned in a nursing home and Marina spent many hours in that center, keeping her company and thinking what she could do to add some color in that institution.
When saddly her mother left, few months after the coronavirus crisis appeared and the nursing homes sadly became the focus of the pandemic so Marina’s initial idea took another dimention. She decided that was necessary to do a tribute and give visibility to all these old people who were suffering isolated in the nursing homes.
During the days of work, the residents and center’s staff have been accompanying and encouraging the artist with concerts, posters and countless activities, and some of them have even dared to climb the lift.
MEDIA IMPACT
An incredible succes that the national and international media got really interested in like El País, TV1, Telecinco, Antena 3, TV3, 324, La Vanguardia, etc.
